Solar thermal systems

Solar thermal is a mature technology for several applications, mainly for domestic hot water and space heating. There are many possible applications however, some of them,  have not yet entered the market due to technical and/or economic constraints such as: solar cooling, solar process heat, solar district heating.

The Relab group started its activities on solar cooling in 2004 and has continuously been working on this technology. Since 2012 Relab started dealing with solar district heating and solar process heat. Projects usually start with pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. In several cases, when the feasibility shows positive results, the process continues with scientific support along the whole project: pre design, technical specification’s for tenders, supervision of the installation and monitoring during the system operation.

Since 2011 Relab is also engaged in know-how transfer to low-income countries, especially Latin America and MENA countries: techno-economic experience gained in European and national projects is disseminated towards sunny countries, where solar thermal technologies still need to be supported in order to massively enter the energy market.
